Jost- Sigristen Haus   House Jost- Sigristen
Jost Sigristen was the last governor of the old republic of Wallis, and his unusual apartment shows the life style of the governors of this time.

The apartment lasted nearly two centuries without big changes. Interesting are for example the paintings from 1772 in the grisaille style , which are quiet unusual for this region.
In 1976 the community of Ernen both the apartment and the society for history and culture of Ernen created a museum with interesting hints to the history of Wallis.

Leaflets from the society for history and culture are available for Fr. 5.-. During the high season the museum opens Wednesday and Sunday afternoon from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. For groups it will be opened on request at the tourist office.

Church museum
The museum of the church can be visited during the village tours. There are many interesting pieces to see, as the clothes for the service ceremony of Cardinal Schiner – a 15th century work from Genoa, new embroideries from Milan, the so called goblet of Schiner – a very nice work of the early 15th century, high quality works of a goldsmith, sculptures, ex-voto pictures from St. Marie’s chapel in the woods of Ernen, liturgical objects etc. A guide book of the church can be bought in the tourist office for SFr. 3.--. For groups it will be opened on request at the tourist office.

Court house of the Zenden Goms with it’s historical documents
Court house   Because Ernen was the capital city of Goms, it was also centre of the jurisdiction. The court house is situated on the village place and was used for official affairs of the region Goms. People had to pay their taxes there (the tenth).

It was also used as prison and had a torture cell. It was built in 1750 – 1762. In 1764, the three last criminals had been hanged on the hill outside Ernen.
