By car: Ernen-Mühlebach-Steinhaus-Ausserbinn are reachable all year. The passes Grimsel (north connection: Basel-Bern-Grimsel), Nufenen (south connection: Bellizona-Airolo-Furka) are open during the summer months. The car train station Furka (Realp-Oberalp), Lötschberg (Kandersteg-Goppenstein) and Simpon (Brig-Iselle) are open all year.

New: With the opening of the Lötschberg-Basistunnel (NEAT) on 2007 and the resulting reduction of travelling time by one hour, a new era has began for the Valais. The time-table of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway was adjusted and extended. From this date on the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway offers 20% more train between Zermatt-Goms-Göschenen/Disentis.
